What is a Marine Grade luminaire?

A Marine Grade luminaire is a product specifically designed to withstand the corrosive effects of coastal and marine environments. In the presence of salt spray, humidity, and harsh weather conditions, conventional materials and finishes can deteriorate rapidly, compromising both the appearance and performance of the luminaire. For this reason, Marine Grade products are developed using carefully selected materials and specific surface treatments, validated through testing under controlled conditions to assess their corrosion resistance.

Which materials are used?

Corrosion resistance is achieved through the use of suitable materials and protective treatments. Our Marine Grade products employ materials such as:

• AISI 316L stainless steel, particularly suitable for applications near the sea thanks to the presence of molybdenum in the alloy;
• EN AC-46100 aluminum, selected for its excellent mechanical properties and compatibility with advanced protection systems.

Aluminum components are protected through coating processes qualified according to the Qualicoat standard, designed to improve performance against corrosion and weathering.

How are Marine Grade products tested?

In addition to supplier selection and monitoring in compliance with standards governing raw materials and metal component finishing processes, products undergo accelerated corrosion testing in neutral salt spray chambers for up to 1,000 hours. The tests verify:

• material resistance;
• durability of surface treatments.

Testing is carried out on both intact samples and samples intentionally scribed in the exposure area, as required by standards governing salt spray testing (ISO 9227).
